It has all original sheet metal with one full complete and factory correct repaint in its correct colors of Placer Gold with Black Stripes. The re-paint was performed only after the car was taken totally apart and fully stripped down to bare metal at a cost of around $15,000. The paint is 9.9 out of 10 with no issues. All the stainless steel bright work was removed and fully polished, resulting in
looking like it did in 1971. Only NOS (New Old Stock) weather stripping was used when the car was put back together; not OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) or OER (Original Equipment Reproduction). New weather stripping was bought back in the mid-'70s from GM, stored correctly and is in mint condition. Ahhh, nothing fits like the original GM parts.
The headlights are the original ones the car came with in 1971, are clear and in great condition. The bumpers are the originals from 1971, in very good condition with only very minor signs of their age but still very clean and do NOT need to be changed. The undercarriage of the car is original and untouched from 1971. It was dealer undercoated, is very thin and you can remove the undercoating and see the very bright Red oxide primer beneath. The trunk is all original with the original splatter paint finish. You can see where it stops and the red oxide paint is everywhere else in the trunk. Even the original and like new mat is still in the trunk.
The only aftermarket part in the interior is new carpet. The rest of the interior is all original GM and in PERFECT condition, with the only exception being the heater A/C controls and dash pad. They are original GM parts but since A/C could not be ordered until 1973 in a Z28, the first owner had it installed around 1975 and used all GM original pieces. The A/C system is in 100% full working condition. The headliner, seatbelts, center console, steering wheel, gauges, radio, and door panels are all ORIGINAL. Even the seats in this Z28 are in their original factory condition with the original material and you can plainly see the unpainted rust free seat track. Also present are power steering, power disk brakes, rear defrost, am/fm stereo and power door locks. This interior is spotless!
The car comes with the original Protecto-plate, owner’s manual with clear plastic cove, original tire changing instructions and 2 original cut keys with the cutouts still intact.
Engine and Driveline
The car still has all 5 original AU-Code wheels with the original dark gray paint. Yes, if you are wondering, the wheels are mounted on all 5 of the original Goodyear F60-15 fiberglass-belted white letter tires from 1971. The owner has verified this and it is fact that the wheels and tires are untouched and are the factory originals the car came with. They were taken off the car at 12,000 miles or so in 1972 and stored the proper way until they were put back on the car a couple years ago. The tires are crack and dry rot free with no flat spots. The spare tire was never mounted on the car. The original jack assembly with jack cover is still in the trunk and in very good condition.
This is a fine opportunity to acquire not only a genuine, ORIGINAL and unmolested Camaro Z28, but one that justifiably represents one of the last great American pony cars.
