In 1955 Pontiac shared the all-new GM A-body with the Chevrolet. The new car was nearly three inches lower, more smoothly styled, with a clean, lively look that was a great leap forward from its former shape. Its new chrome “hockey stick” strip dropped down from below the vent window and ran back to the tail, accommodating the popular two-tone paint schemes of the era. Three chromed stars along the forward body side were reminiscent of Buick’s triple porthole arrangement. Along with the restyling, Pontiac broke with Detroit practice by also introducing a brand new engine, the overhead-valve "Strato-Streak" 287 ci V-8 engine, a long overdue event as Pontiac was the last manufacturer to build a compact V-8. At 180 hp and 264 ft-lb torque with a two-barrel carb, it generated 42 percent more horsepower and 13 percent more torque than the previous straight-eight flathead. NewstalgiaMotors.com is proud to offer this elegant, all numbers matching Pontiac Star Chief Custom Hardtop that is a documented 2-owner, original California owned and driven car, with only 765 Total Miles since a 4 year full frame-off restoration using only original or NOS (new old stock) parts whenever available. It is one of the best of its kind and a multiple award winner with AACA (Antique Automobile Club of America) Junior, Senior, and Grand National awards.

Highlights:

Exterior
That eye popping finish is the direct result of having the entire car completely disassembled, stripped to bare metal, carefully prepped, shot with PPG Deltron Aqua and White Mist paint, and clear coated. The fit and finish is excellent with uniform body panel gaps in perfect alignment. All weather stripping was replaced using NOS whenever possible. The body trim and chrome bumpers are shiny and in like new condition.

Interior
Like the exterior, the striking interior underwent a major restoration using custom dyed Aqua and White Leather upholstery on the seats and door panels, N.O.S carpet and headliner, and new mylar trim applied to the door panels.

Engine and Driveline
The numbers matching 287 CID V-8 was professionally rebuilt to OEM specs and converted for unleaded fuel. The Hydramatic automatic transmission was also professionally rebuilt. All suspension, brake system components, and other hardware were also replaced.

Wheels and Tires
710 x 15" wheels, wide whitewalls and NOS full hub caps.

Attention 50's Pontiac collectors: This fine, investment grade example of a correctly restored 1955 Pontiac Star Chief Custom Hardtop is a must have in any serious Pontiac collection!
